Class Descriptions

Tiny Toes and Tunes – Ages 18 months through 29 months with parents/caregivers. This class is a lighthearted introduction to music, singing and dancing. Class focuses on basic locomotive movements and listening skills. Children and adults will experience a warm atmosphere and a chance for little ones to dance with the adults who love them. Meet new friends and other families.

Preschool Dance Combination – Ages 2.5 – 3 (Includes Creative Movement, Ballet, Jazz and Tap) This class is the perfect introduction to dance for our toddlers. We emphasize basic motor skills and lots of fun! This is the first classroom experience for a lot of our toddlers and we lovingly teach learning skills such as “taking turns”, “staying in line”, “following the teacher”, and “being a good listener”. In addition, students learn basic dance positions and steps. We incorporate singing and games into this learning experience. We encourage body awareness and imagination.

Ballet/Tap is a class for young students to learn the fundamentals of ballet and tap technique in a fun and fast-paced environment. Students begin large locomotive warm-ups and then progress to stretches and basic ballet steps. Students then change into their tap shoes and learn beginning tap steps that will help them develop strength, balance and coordination. Class ends with dancing to a guided story.

Ballet I/II is a class for the beginning ballet student. Students start at the barre with correct placement and the positions of the feet and arms. Class continues with ballet steps and fun stretches and ends with combinations. Children will learn choreography and develop a love and understanding of ballet.

Intermediate Ballet is designed for students who want to improve upon the basic fundamentals of ballet. Emphasis is placed on coordination, placement, flexibility, technique and strength. Musicality is stressed along with a strong sense of performance style. Students in class will move more freely and dance with grace and confidence.

Intermediate/Advanced Ballet is designed for students with a strong basic foundation. Correct placement of the head and arms in coordination with leg and body movements is stressed. Emphasis is also placed on body alignment, technique and increased vocabulary and performance quality.

Ballet & Beginning Pointe is an intermediate-level ballet class with the introduction of pointe. In Beginning Pointe goals will be to learn the proper use of the shoe and to strengthen the feet and ankles through demi-pointe and barre work. Dancers will quickly progress and each student will receive individual focus and attention.

Intermediate/Advanced Pointe is for those who have completed beginning pointe. In this class the technique is faster, more demanding, and the focus is on building stamina and skill through center work. Combinations are performed away from the barre and dancers will learn steps found in classic ballets.

Boys Ballet is for the boy who wishes to progress technically and is taught by an advanced male dancer. Emphasis is placed on placement, technique, and the male use of the arms and head in ballet. Class also includes turns and jumps. Students will immediately notice their improved physical and technical strength.

Hip Hop is a high-energy class with an emphasis on fun, attitude, and the opportunity to develop your own sense of style. The main focus of this class is developing performance quality and musicality. The movements have been influenced by some of the greatest pop star choreographers. Groove to the beats of the latest songs as you warm up, stretch and learn a hot combination!

Beginning Breakdance will introduce you to the foundations of bboying/bgirling, including top rock, drops to the floor, basic footwork patterns, spins and freezes. In this class you will gain a strong breaking foundation as a means through which your personal style can emerge and develop.

Intermediate/Advanced Breakdance is open to students who have mastered beginning Breakdance skills. This class begins with a warm-up and stretches, followed by technical training and more advanced footwork and freezes. Class ends with choreography and a dance circle. This is a class for strong breakers who are disciplined and hard working. Instructor recommendation required.

Creative Movement is designed to introduce children to music and movement through a structured class that stresses creativity and group interaction. Many different props and songs are used to make the class fun, and basic ballet steps and rhythm awareness will also be introduced. Class ends with a fairytale story set to dance. These classes will prepare little ones for whatever comes next… sports, dance and especially school.

Basic Tap introduces students to the intricacies of rhythm and musicality. Proper execution and production of sound clarity will be developed while learning choreography appropriate to the level of the students.

Basic Jazz is a fun, high-energy class that begins with a center warm-up and progresses through technical exercises focused on placement. Class continues with strengthening and stretching and moves into progressions across the floor. Students will build a dance vocabulary and develop a strong jazz technique.

Intermediate Jazz focuses on intermediate/advanced technique and choreography. The warm-up concentrates on strength and flexibility. Progressions across the floor are more advanced and class continues with dynamic and fun-filled choreography.

Adult Jazz (morning) is a class designed for the adult dancer who wishes to improve their dance technique and physicality. Class begins with a standing stretch, jazz isolations and work at the barre. Dancers then come to center to stretch and strengthen. Following the warm-up dancers proceed to progressions across the floor and choreography.

Adult Jazz (evening) is a class for the adult who wishes to learn basic technique, work out and dance. This class is high-energy, fun-filled and geared to the needs of the adult dancers in the class.

Jumps & Turns is dedicated to just that: turns and jumps! Proper technique and execution of all jumps and turns will be learned separately, followed by short traveling combinations incorporating movement at a more advanced level. The warm-up focuses on a good solid stretch, working strength and proper alignment throughout the body.

Modern is a class based on the movements developed by great modern choreographers, including Martha Graham, Jose Limon, and Twyla Tharp.
Students will warm up both standing and on the floor, and learn modern exercises like falls and contractions. Class continues with progressions across the floor and dynamic modern dance choreography.

Intermediate/Advanced Modern is appropriate for dancers who have taken modern dance before and who have the ability to hold their center. Class includes more advanced warm ups, progressions and choreography, and may include improvisation and contact improvisation.

Modern/Strength class includes warm-up and strengthening exercises designed to make the dancer’s core extremely strong. Class will include exercise such as push-ups and stretches. Students will develop more control over their bodies.

Modern/Repertory is devoted to learning repertory choreography. Students will experience a sense of accomplishment as they learn and execute this fun and challenging choreography.

Acting In this class students will learn solid acting technique and receive individual attention. Students will also experience theater games, acting exercises, monologues and scenes. The focus will be on developing and sharpening acting skills.

Musical Theatre Cabaret is devoted to triple-threat performing! Students will sing, dance, and act age-appropriate material as they prepare a cabaret to be performed at the studio and/or at small community events. Students will learn selections from the great Broadway musicals of yesterday and today.

Musical Theatre Company (Red) is a company available to students aged 7 – 11 who wish to devote themselves to all aspects of performance. Students must take 2 additional classes at their level per week to register for this class. This class meets twice a week for a total of 3+ hours in which students will receive training in acting, voice, and dance from professional-level instructors. Audition technique will be covered and students will receive individual attention. Students will be invited to perform at community events and/or a production at the end of the semester.

Musical Theatre Company (Blue) is a company available to students aged 11 - 14 who wish to devote themselves to all aspects of performance. Students must take 2 additional classes at their level per week to register for this class. This class meets twice a week for a total of 3+ hours in which students will receive training in acting, voice, and dance from professional level instructors. Audition technique will be covered and students will receive individual attention. Students will be invited to perform at community events and/or a production at the end of the semester.

Junior Artists is a company of teens aged 12 – 14 who have trained in the younger companies or who have received excellent training elsewhere. Class meets twice a week and company members are required to take two additional dance classes per week. Junior Artists focus on intermediate/advanced dance and singing. Emphasis is placed on the performer contributing to the creative process. Company members perform in large productions and community events throughout the year.

Dance Artists is a company open to the intermediate/advanced high-school dance student. Dance Artists focus on dance technique; vocal technique is included for those who wish to sing. The choreography performed ranges in style from classical ballet to theater dance, modern, jazz, hip hop and Breakdance. Emphasis is placed on the student being part of the creative process.

Company Funk is an invitation-only company choreographed by Shar Adrias and guest choreographers. Dancers invited into this group will have been dancing for a minimum of two years and are advanced hip-hop dancers. Company Funk rehearses choreography that is performed in the community. Dancers must commit to company rehearsals and performances.
